Support garment for neck lift/chin lipo?

I am researching platysmalplasty with submental liposuction and each provider has shared different recommendations for the length of time to wear the support head garment post-op. What is evidence based practice? Thanks!

Generally, most swelling subsides within the first two weeks following neck liposuction. As such, many plastic surgeons recommend wearing your neck compression garment for this initial two-week period. However, if you notice persistent swelling beyond two weeks, it's advisable to continue wearing the garment until the swelling decreases significantly.
The amount of fat removed during your procedure can also influence swelling and, consequently, the length of time you should wear the garment. More extensive fat removal typically leads to greater swelling, which may require a longer period of compression.
Moreover, suppose advanced techniques like VASER liposuction, J-Plasma, or Renuvion were used in your procedure. In that case, these can also impact your recovery time and the duration for wearing the neck compression garment.

There is not much evidence on how long to wear a compression garment. It is variable depending on the surgery and patient recovery.

While there is no one correct answer, many surgeons will have a patient wear the garment around the clock for about a week, and then at nighttime for the second week.

A full set of facial and neck photographs from all angles are required to make a determination, since a surgical neck lift and chin liposuction or two completely different procedures. A neck lift is performed when there are fat deposits located above and below the platysma muscle, which also includes a platysma plasty. In that case, we place two surgical drains in the neck for two days after the procedure, no garment is necessary. Simple liposuction can only accomplish removal of the fat deposits above the muscle in the neck, and a garment would be acceptable in that case.
