How many weeks after lip fillers is the filler still malleable or moveable?

How many weeks after lip injections is the filler (Restalyne) still malleable or moveable? The injector told me to massage my lips but it’s two weeks after the injections and I was wondering if the filler can still be moved? Thanks.

Thank you for your question. The final result of filler takes two weeks to show after all of the swelling has gone down and at that point the filler is no longer moveable. I hope this information helps. I have also attached a link and video with more information on fillers.

Filler migration is possible but not highly likely assuming proper injection. It also occurs within the first few days if it does occur so it's easy to detect. Please contact a qualified provider or a board-certified physician with extensive experience in these procedures.

    I doubt that massaging the lips at this point will change much. That being said, it may cause any lumps to be absorbed by the body quicker, since you are increasing circulation and movement to the area. If you have significant concerns at this point, you may want to consider reversal. If the concerns are small, time will typically correct them.

Generally, within two weeks the lip filler is no longer malleable.  You should be able to massage or move your lips without changing the shape of them given you are two weeks post-injection.  Though it is not exactly the same for each patient, lip filler stops being malleable after about one week.  By two weeks, you should be experiencing your final results.  If you have any concerns, contact your provider.

Typically two weeks after injections you are seeing your final results.  The filler is not likely to be moved or changed by gentle massage after this time.  I encourage you to visit with your injector if you still have concerns.

I love Restylane for lip injections. Restylane is malleable and can be molded after the injections. If there are still bumps two weeks later you can massage the treated area but you don’t have to worry about Restylane shifting on its own after it is injected. Depending on how much filler material you have in your lips and how deep the filler was placed in your lips, but usually by two weeks time the fillers are settled in. If your filler material is superficial and you have a lot then you may still be able to mold them a little. I instruct my patient to massage their lips is NOT to mold or shape their own lips but to promote blood flow and healing. My lip patients’ lip shapes are defined and sculpt when they leave the office so they are not to try to massage them to reshape them.
