Since I was a little girl, I've always felt insecure about my nose. I am an aspiring artist and my nose always looks so huge in photos and videos. I am more than ready to go through with this procedure but I still have many questions. Would I need a nasal implant? I have A LOT of cartilage in my nose. Also, would open or close be better? I want nose that is clearly slimmer and more defined, but still natural.
Answer: Hi! I have an undefined bridge and a very large and bulbous tip. What type of Rhinoplasty would be best for me? You can have a more refined nose that is natural in appearance with a rhinoplasty. I perform these surgeries with closed technique to preserve the structure of the nose and minimize visible scarring. Look at website before and after galleries and reviews to help you select your surgeon.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Rhinoplasty can result in a more narrow nose... I understand this Q & A forum can be helpful, but when anyone writes "I still have many questions," I usually tell them to just come in for a consultation as soon as possible. It is difficult to truly evaluate your bridge from the photos, but it looks a little flat from the frontal view so you may need a graft. In consultation, an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon can tell you for sure and answer all your questions. Your skin looks a bit thick which will limit how thin your nose can ultimately be, but you can potentially have a nice result. Realistic expectations are very important.

Answer: Rhinoplasty for a bulbous tip and low bridge Treating a wide "bulbous" tip is best accomplished by :- Removing the upper edge of the wide tip cartilage- Adding support and projection to the tip with a combination of cartilage sutures and a graft - Narrowing the tip with sutures between the cartilageA low or flat bridge (or dorsum as doctors call it) can be augmented with implant or graft material to give a more defined lookIf "still natural" is what you are after, be cautious about overly narrowing the nose with rim excisions-- they can leave some visible scarring sometimesSee an experienced surgeon, and best wishes for a great result!

Answer: Rhinoplasty and tip It is hard to say from the photos exactly but your dorsal height looks ok. If it is a bit low, a graft may help augment it. You certainly can benefit from narrowing of the base of the nose and refining the tip. Best of luck.

Answer: Rhinoplasty to narrow a wide nose Closed rhinoplasty techniques can be performed to alleviate any external scarring. A tip rhinoplasty would involve suture techniques applied to the lower lateral cartilages to narrow the tip. Thick skin will be an impediment to seeing very refined results. An alar plasty will be needed to narrow wide nostrils. Osteotomies of the nasal bones are required to narrow the bridge line. When patient's have a low bridge, a cartilage graft can be inserted to give height and the appearance of narrowness to the nose. For many examples, please see the link below.
