I got liposuction on my abdomen and flanks. At one week, I noticed a crease, in which my compression garment has been partially a cause of - whenever I sit, it creases right at my waist. The nurse at my doctor's office advised me to stop wearing the garment and massage daily. What are the downsides of not wearing a garment for a full month as originally recommended? For context, I did not get a lot removed and I'm 26 with no skin laxity issues.
Answer: Compression Garment after Liposuction Thank you for your question. It is important to note that not all surgeons will require or even recommend that patients wear a compression garment. In my practice, I do recommend use of a light weight and seamless compression garment, as I have found that it helps to reduce the amount of swelling that a patient will experience. Many of my patients also cite that they are more comfortable when wearing their compression garment during the first 4 weeks following their liposuction procedure, however, when compression garments are causing dents or discomfort I will often recommend the discontinuation of their use.If you are concerned or confused by the nurses recommendation to stop wearing your garment, I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your operating surgeon. If an appointment is not possible, I would recommend speaking with your surgeon directly as that may provide you with better peace of mind. There is no right or wrong or even universal standard when it comes to compression garments immediately following a surgical procedure. Even for a surgeon who recommends their use, there will undoubtedly be some instances where the surgeon will have their patient forego its use. I hope you find this helpful and I wish you the best in your recovery!

Answer: Compression garment after lipo The compression garment is meant to help with swelling after surgery. Its important that the garment fit nice and snug but not causing dents or creases. You should follow your surgeons instructions as we all tend to have slightly different pre and post op instructions, I would recommend you try and find a garment that is smooth but fights you tight. best of luck

Answer: Liposuction garment. Thank you for the question and photos. The key to a good garment is comfort and a good snug fit (not too tight). If it doesn't fit well and causes dents or creases I tell my patients not to wear it. The liposuction result does not depend on the garment it is only there to help reduce swelling in the early post op period. Good luck you have a great result. Dr. Khuthaila

Answer: Elastic Garment after Liposuction We recommend some type of compression garment after liposuction to speed reduction of swelling and assist skin re-draping, especially for larger volume fat removal. However in your case, because of your young age, lack of issues with skin laxity and modest fat removal, removal of the garment should have no untoward effects. I have seen cases where overly tight garments caused irritation and even open wounds. Keep in touch with your surgeon. Good luck!
