My lips aren't the same years after filler, what can I do?

I got lip filler (Juvederm) in my bottom lip once and in my top lip twice, this was back in 9/2014. Its been 3 years and my lips still have filler and arent the same shape as before. I think the top lip is fine but I dont like my bottom...should I tried the hydrnalise? or has everything dissolved? could it have caused scar tissue? ppl say its your lips but they def. do not look like my original lips at all....what gives? and will they eventually go back to the original shape, maybe few more yrs?

Typically filler lasts less than a year in the lips. There are some cases in which the lip filler has persisted for much longer. Typically if filler is placed too superficial the filler can remain for much longer. It is difficult to say if there is still filler present which has created the unwanted appearance of your lips but I would inject hyaluronidase to the area to dissolve any filler still remaining. Following this the baseline appearance of your lips can be assessed and you can decide if you want to pursue further treatments. Thank you for sharing your question.  For most patients HA fillers dissolve from between 5 months and 18 months after treatment.  I would recommend seeing an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and for an in-person evaluation of your current lips and photos of your lips prior to treatment.  If filler is still thought to cause the problem it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase to restore your oringal appearance.  Hope this helps.

Often filler goes away in  6-9 months maybe 12 months. You can try hyaluronidase to see if it will help dissolve what you think might still be there.

If you are unhappy with the results of the filler then you should definitely consult with an expert in lip injections and have the product dissolved.  Sometimes just a little bit of product in the wrong place can have you look uneven or unnatural.  I have seen this many times when I have to correct fillers in the lips.  Best, Dr. Green

Every person is slightly different and I've seen a few cases where fillers last a long time whether it's in the lips or elsewhere in the face.   The new fillers are lasting longer and longer.   We typically got 6 months in the lips.  But, now we get products lasting a year or longer.  However, as the products wear out it will not be even across your lip.  So it is a good idea to retreat every 6 or so months to maintain a consistently even look.  Most patients come every 5-6 months and do 1-2 syringes to maintain their appearance.   I have patients in their 70s who've looked the same since they were 60.   And if you can do that, you can only imagine how terrific younger patients look with just a little maintenance. There are a few things you should know before you make your decisions. Firstly, hyaluronic acid fillers may last for many years in some individuals, even though in the majority of people they only last 6 months in the lips. Secondly, you should evaluate photographs of your lip's shape prior to the treatment and this will help you decide whether you need more fillers or a hyaluronidase treatment to make the filler dissolve.
