Could I be considered a candidate for Juvedern if I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome?

I was diagnosed with type III, Hypermobility type three years ago. I am 35 and at some point would like to have a little bit more fullness in my nasolabial folds. I do not have the stretchy skin, thin skin, or easy bruising that others with EDS have, as it is a spectrum disorder. I had a bilateral TMJ replacement last year and did very well with incisional healing.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Assuming you are cleared for treatment by your geneticist and rheumatologist for the procedure you should be able to safely have treatment.  The issue with the spectrum of EDS is that there is an increased risk of bleeding and hematoma formation, wound healing implications, and possible delayed rejection of the material.  I would use extreme caution with any treatment.

Thank you for sharing your question.  As you are aware, Ehlers Danlos is not common.  I have successfully treated three patients with your genetic condition using hyaluronic acid fillers.  Depending on the subset of EDS, some patients have a greater tendency for bruising and possible subsequent "stretching" of the skin, but all is reversible with HA fillers.  Please see a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in cosmetic procedures.  In your case, dermatologists are best trained in identifying and caring for EDS.  Best of luck,Suneel Chilukuri, M.D.Houston, Texas

You can definitely use fillers such as hyaluronic acid fillers anywhere on the face or body as long as it's indicated. Seek a good plastic or a dermatologic surgeon for that treatment and make sure they're well experienced. Good luck from New York City
