Kybella for small fat areas in stomach?

Does Kybella work for love handles and/or lower stomach? I’m in very good shape with low body fat but have a small amount of love handles that it is hard to get rid of without dipping into ridiculously low body fat. Is there an experienced injector in San Francisco?

Hello! Thank you for your post. As a board-certified provider of cosmetic treatments including Kybella, I have had many clients ask if Kybella is appropriate for treating fat in various areas of the body. The simplicity of the treatment makes it very appealing. Currently, though, Kybella is only approved and intended for use in the submental area -- the spot where your chin meets your neck that often collects unwanted fat due to age or genetics. While some providers do administer Kybella for fat on other areas of the body, it is not always the best or safest option. For abdominal fat or love handles, particularly if you are already in good shape, I would recommend looking into a procedure like CoolSculpting instead. It is a similarly simple treatment that is geared more towards treating the kind of localized fat that you describe. You should schedule an in-person consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to learn more about the procedures that might make the most sense for you. Good luck!

Yes, Kybella can be used for treating abdominal fat, but it can get very expensive. Although not popular in the US, Mesotherapy can be used to treat abdominal fat. Other options are, cool sculpting, Alma Ultra v, liposuction.

Kybella is FDA approved for treatment of the fat causing a double chin. While it can work anywhere there is fat, there are other other modalities such as Coolsculpt that are specifically approved for the love handles. I would highly recommend that you be evaluated for Coolsculpt.

While there may be some practitioners that are using Kybella off-label for other areas of the body, the main issue from your perspective is that Kybella can get very, very expensive if you intend to use it on larger areas. I would suggest instead considering other options for non-invasive body contouring such as SculpSure or CoolSculpting. These modalities work well for individuals who are fit but who may have areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Great question, Kybella works where there is fat, for most part.  The key is in person evaluation and experienced provider having enough comfort with the product and anatomy knowledge to know pitfalls.  Kybella is expensive, in some areas to have effective outcome it may be constly, consider other noninvasive options, such as coolsculpting if you have resistant fat.
