Periorbital edema (swelling around the eyes) is a common manifestation of sinus infections or allergies. This may give the appearance of tired eyes but usually is not a neurological or muscular condition. When the sinus issues are resolved via medication or surgery, or a combination of the two, your eyes should return to their previous appearance.Best of luck!
Repeated infections can definitely cause peri ocular swelling and some chronic inflammation. Depending on the severity of the problem, a balloon sinuplasty may benefit you as it is a minimally invasive I would suggest waiting 3 to 6 months before you consider eyelid surgery.
Eyelid swelling associated with a sinusitis often does resolve. However, there can be some wear and tear associated with the inflammation. Especially with repeated cycles of eyelid swelling, the eyes can be subject to premature aging. I recommend letting the tissues to settle and see if things resolve to your satisfaction. If not, you may benefit from surgical or non surgical options to improve the appearance of the eyes.
Sinusitis by itself usually doesn't cause a droopy eyelid unless there is significant swelling. If you have significant eyelid swelling then the sinusitis treatment may improve the ptosis (drooping eyelid) but I'd recommend a consultation with an oculo-facial plastic surgeon if you have a droopy eyelid that is not directly related to swelling that you get when the sinuses become infected (in other words, doesn't resolve once you use medication for the sinus condition).Best of luck!
It's important to perform sinus surgery to reduce chronic nasal polyposis and the repetitive infectious cycle inside the sinuses. Many cases of chronic sinusitis are caused from allergic nasal polyps located inside the nose. Allergies must also be under control with medications. The polyps are removed with endoscopic sinus surgery but they can come back unless allergies are under control. Some mild edema from the allergies may subside after sinus surgery, however it is doubtful that the droopy eyelid and swollen eyelids will go back to being normal. A droopy eyelid can occur after sinus surgery but it is uncommon. Only in the setting of truly dramatic sinusitis would you expect this to occur and other complications typically present themselves at the same time. I would suggest visiting with an opthalmologist as well just to be sure and safe. You may just have experienced mechanical ptosis which could be corrected at any time. Hope that helps!
Sinusitis can cause inflammation around the orbits resulting in drooping and swelling of the eyelids. As the infection resolves, so will the changes around the eyes. Hopefully, your infection is being treated appropriately, since there are other potential complications to worry about than just your eyelids. Thank you for sharing your question and concerns. Best wishes.
