Good afternoon. My name is Edith i live in Mexico city, i would like to know the cost of a decompression eye surgery? I had Graves Disease and they removed my thyroid , but my eyes are a little bit pop out , i have dry eyes and i would like to look as i used to be.....

Orbital decompression is a very technically difficult surgery to accomplish.  It is associated with a significant rate of permanent visual loss.  Granted that many who permanently lose vision after surgery are at highest risk (i.e. smokers and diabetics with very tight orbits and significant preexisting visual loss).  For this reason, if you plan on pursing this course, you need to seek help from the best surgeons.  Unfortuantely, in the United States, this means seeking care at a major university center.  These institutions are now seeking so-called "international fees."  Rather than embracing international patients, these institutions are looking to extract every possible dollar from those seeking care in the United States.  This is the so-called "Arab Sheik" with a suit case full of money problem (Yes, hospital administrators talk and think like this).  I find this appalling.  Not everyone is an Italian industrialist with unlimited funds.  In the United States, I would recommend surgeons such as Robert Goldberg, MD at UCLA and Michael Kazim, MD at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.  There are a handful of other surgeons internationally who probably measure up to these two but you really need to understand who you are going to for care.  And yes, there are plenty of hidden expenses.

It is best to obtain personal consultation, or at least remote (virtual) consultation, for more detailed answer. Orbital decompression is customized to each individual.  It is done on outpatient basis, meaning patient goes home after the surgery.
