Hello and thank you for this question about your rhinoplasty surgery. Green tea has many health benefits, but you’re board certified facial plastic surgeon has probably advised you to avoid caffeine prior to your surgery due to its dehydrating effects. One glass of green tea, however, should not adversely impact your surgery. More importantly, you should continue to avoid any foods or medications that can thin the blood, such as alcohol, aspirin, or ibuprofen. These can have a much more serious effect on the safety of your surgery than caffeine. Follow all of your board certified facial plastic surgeon’s pre-operative directions for the most successful outcome. I wish you good health and a successful surgery.- Jacqueline T. Cheng, MD
