In those instances where direct opposition of the wound edge is not done and left to heal secondarily, two things will sometimes happen. One, it will stay red longer and two, there may be a central depression where the outside layer heals over the scar. Whether this needs to be re-excised and closed or treated with YAG laser or intense pulsed light, you have to be seen by an experienced laser equipped surgeon. I'm sure there is a plethora of plastic surgeons, dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons with the laser and the experience to make this better. Hope that's helpful.
