Chin filler moved after eating. Is this normal? I had Voluma injected in my chin about three weeks ago.

A few days ago I was biting an apple and the filler suddenly shifted, it felt very strange similar to a numbing sensation. I looked in the mirror and it had moved towards my lips. I got horrified and massaged it before calling my doctor and hopefully it went back to its place but I’m worried it would happen again. Also when eating I can see the “shape” of the area injected which doesn’t look gradually faded with the rest of the skin.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your filler injection issues.  After three weeks nearly all HA fillers have become incorporated into your tissues and would not suddenly migrate or shift. I would definitely reach out to your injector as they have the full details of your treatment and can offer you advice as to what has taken place.  Best wishes.

Voluma should not move around like that as it gets incorporated into the soft tissues.  I would have an exam again with your treating provider if there are further concerns woth movement. As for seeing the shape of the area- once again, your provider can explain what’s going on- Voluma adds volume to deficient areas and maybe a little massage or dissolving can help improve the transition you are referring to, however, it may affect the overall aesthetic result.

Hi Evelyn,It is very unlikely that the filler would move 3 weeks past injections and certainly not from the chin to the lips. You may have been eating something that caused an allergic reaction and your lips may have gotten swollen. That would make your lips look as if the filler got to your lips. That's a more likely scenario than the filler actually migrating from the chin to the llip. I hope that puts your mind at ease. All the best from Massachusetts, Dr.Onir
