25, F. Was wondering if there was a way to place the scar on the inside of the arm so when the arms are down they're not visible. My arms are very full, about 18" around. I know I will have to have the most work done. One doctor I have been interested in has great results but I can tell the scars, even though not visible in pictures because of the pose, will be visible when the arm is down. Not sure if this is common or to look elsewhere for more discreet scar placement.

Answer: Arm scar In general there are two places that a Brachioplasty scar (Arm Lift). I prefer the medial or inside arm for the same reason that you highlighted. It remains hidden unless you are waving to the queen! In addition, this incision can also help reconture the armpit which can hang after significant weight loss. The other incision is on the back of the arm which is always visible. Seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can determine what procedure is best for you.

Answer: Arm Lift and Scar Placement Thank you for your excellent question and congratulations for considering arm lift surgery. Brachioplasty can provide an excellent result in the ideal candidate. In general, it is necessary for the scar to run the full length of the upper arm, from armpit to elbow. Keeping in mind the pose of the arm in the photos that you shared, the scar can be placed on the front side, back side or along the midline of the upper arm. Most patients prefer the midline position, as the scar is considered least visible in this location. Scar placement on what you describe as "the inside of the arm" would correlate to the front side of the arm in the standard pose in the photos. As you very astutely pointed out, front side scar placement would make the scar least visible with the arm down. I find that most patients still prefer the midline scar position with the argument being that the scar is least visible when the arm is in use. Please be sure to seek out an in-person consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns about scar placement, your goals and expectations, and to help you determine the best course of action. Best wishes!
