Is detoxing necessary when removing breast implants?

Is it required to detox for removing breast implants? I boughtthe Pompa detox program for breast implant removal and was told that its best to detox before and after... Would love to hear from plastic surgeons Thanks

Thank you for your interesting question. 
In general terms, pre and post surgery preparation by means of cessation of smoking (where appropriate), eating healthy, nutritious diet and drinking 2-3 L of water daily is good management.
My surgical approach at explantation and total capsulectomy surgery results in removal of the capsule (where safe) with its' contents in toto comprising the implant, peri prosthetic fluid and silicone gel bleed or free silicone if the prosthesis has ruptured. The cavity is then washout out and cleansed such that patient detox is not necessary. I recommend that you seek the opinion of a specialist plastic surgeon experienced at total capsulectomy and explantation surgery who can provide advice specific to your circumstances.
Whilst not necessary, patient may undertake pre and post detox which may also be beneficial but is outside my scope.

No, a detox program is not medically required before or after breast implant removal. There is no good scientific evidence that commercial detox programs are necessary to “clear” implants or improve surgical outcomes.
What matters more is being medically optimized before surgery: good nutrition, hydration, stable health conditions, no smoking or nicotine, and following your surgeon’s instructions about medications and supplements. Some detox products can actually be harmful if they cause dehydration, affect the liver, thin the blood, or interfere with anesthesia.
After implant removal, your body heals through normal wound healing and metabolism. You do not need extreme diets, cleanses, binders, or supplement protocols unless there is a specific medical reason recommended by your physician.
If you have symptoms you believe are related to your implants, it is still important to discuss them honestly with your plastic surgeon and primary doctor. Implant removal may help some patients, but detox programs should not be presented as mandatory.
My advice would be to avoid starting any detox supplement program around surgery unless your surgeon and anesthesiologist approve every ingredient. A safe recovery plan is usually simple: healthy diet, protein, hydration, rest, and proper surgical follow-up.

From a board-certified plastic surgery perspective, commercial detox protocols, including the Pompa program, are not a standard of care, nor are they a medical prerequisite for a successful surgery or recovery.
In fact, taking unverified detox supplements right before or immediately after surgery can actually introduce safety risks.

Detoxing prior to breast implant removal is a recommendation that varies by surgeon.  Most board certified plastic surgeons do not require this preparation before having implants removed.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Your body already has natural systems—the liver, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract—that process and eliminate waste products. There is currently no good scientific evidence that commercial detox programs improve healing or remove silicone from the body after breast implant removal.
