I am 27 with subaortic stenosis since a baby. I am interested in breast augmentation. I know I am at a higher risk with a heart condition but is breast augmentation safe for someone with stenosis? I currently work for a plastic surgeon and have the option of doing it in a hospital with her. I know my cardiologist recommends doing rhinoplasty in a hospital by im almost embarrassed to ask him about breast augmentation. I am losing weight and doing all that I can to be as healthy as possible.
Answer: Surgery If your cardiologist wants elective surgery done in the hospital, then he/she prefers all surgeries be done there so you can be cared for should something happen. You will need a medical clearance from your cardiologist for this.

Answer: Cardiac clearance Hello Akara10! When I meet someone with a known heart condition, I request cardiac clearance from their cardiologist. Depending on the diagnosis and estimated cardiac risk, I speak directly with the cardiologist to obtain clarification and make sure surgery is safe. If a surgical candidate is determined to be low risk, than they are often considered reasonable candidates for surgery if there are no other significant medical or psychological considerations.

Answer: BA candidate Dear Akara10, you should be healthy prior to elective procedures. You will need to get a clearance from your doctor prior to surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Breast Augmentation Risks I appreciate your service Akara, however you should be having this conversation with your cardiologist. Usually breast augmentation is an extremely safe procedure for healthy women. With your history, it probably would be safer to have the procedure done in the hospital. You have nothing to be embarrassed about as thousands of women undergo this procedure yearly and there is no longer any sort of stigma attached. Your safety is the prime concern. Best of luck!
