I have a bbl surgery scheduled for the future, I’ve been reading a lot online and everything mentions a concern for blood clot or fat embolism after surgery… my question is, if I get the leg compression sleeves machine and wear that constantly and have it on 27/7, would that be a way to avoid having to worry about blood clots or fat embolism after surgery?
Answer: Blood clots There are several steps that your surgeon will take before, during, and after surgery to ensure your safety. Sequential compression devices are commonly used during surgery as are compression hose, medications, and other interventions. Your surgeon will likely encourage you to get up and move around several times a day during recovery, as early ambulation is helpful in preventing blood clots. Deep breathing exercises are also recommended. I encourage you to discuss different interventions you can do to promote healthy healing during your recovery.

Answer: Blood clots Dear GeezLouise0, the most important factor for prevention of blood clots after surgery is early mobilization. If you start walking shortly after your surgery is done, the chance of blood clots is minimal. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. Answer: Leg compression after surgery When fat embolism‘s happen they happen during the procedure and there is not much you can do about it. It is a thing that happens during surgery. Blood clots conform during or after surgery. Almost all plastic surgeons who do this procedure using general anesthesia use sequential compression stockings similar to what you depicted during surgery to minimize the chance of blood clot formation. This is because during general anesthesia patients are unable to move and are at increased risk for forming blood clots. Once you’re able to move again your movements will compress veins and pump venous blood preventing you from developing blood clots. Taking a baby aspirin after surgery would also minimize the chance of developing blood clot. I suggest you discuss this with your plastic surgeon. If you haven’t chosen one then I suggest scheduling multiple in person consultations for the local board-certified plastic surgeons in your area and discuss your concerns during consultations.
