5’7 feet tall, 196 pounds, 31 years of age. I had a bbl procedure over 4 years ago, and would like to have round 2 BBL. In November of 2019, I had an pulmonary embolism which was treated and my scans have been cleared and haven’t taken any anticoagulants(eliquis) in over 16 months- will it be okay for me to have a round 2 bbl ?
Answer: Round 2 BBL after pulmonary embolism? Regardless of what surgery you are considering, you will need medical clearance from your primary care doctor. That being said, with a BMI over 30, procedures such as BBL may carry an increased risk of blood clots and pulmonary embolism and/or fat pulmonary embolism inherent to BBL. You may want to consider a relatively safer and permanent option such as buttock implants. Please note, an extremely few number of board-certified plastic surgeons specialize in buttock implants so you may have to travel far and away from home to seek consultation with this particular type of specialist. Glad to be of help.

Answer: BBL revision Dear Indecisive1, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Pulmonary embolism and elective surgery Any surgical procedure done under general anesthesia increases the risk of developing blood clots including deep venous thrombosis that could lead to a second pulmonary embolism. Having a history of previous blood clots increases the risk. This is something you should discuss during an in person consultation with your previous or new plastic surgeon during a proper consultation. There’s a good likelihood your plastic surgeon will want you to get medical clearance and may want an internist or hematologist to manage blood thinners after surgery if indicated. In the end you are the person who is at risk so you should ask yourself how you feel about having a procedure with your own history. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
