2 years post op and permanent stitch is exposed - should I have it removed? (photo)

Question

I am 2 years post op and this permanent stitch started popping out about 6 mos ago. This is the revision scar. It doesn't hurt. I don't want it to stay like this but I'm afraid to remove it because it was placed due to spreading after the original surgery. I don't want the areola to spread again. What kind of laser do I need for the pigmentation? I cannot go back to the original surgeon.

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Exposed suture needs to be removed now to avoid an infection. It is possible, that not all of the suture will need to be removed now, but still it is at risk for needing to be removed if exposed later.  Laser can only treat dark pigment. If you are concerned about the light areas, artistic, not cosmetic, tattooing can be done to restore color.

If permanent suture material is exposed and contaminated then we usually remove it created new paragraph you should follow up with your provider and if you can’t do that, then you should follow up with another provider.
