I’ve just turned thirty and in the last few weeks I’ve developed an intense nasolabial fold and Marionette line on the left side of my face. I’ve always had quite intense smile lines since I was young. Just wondering why this is happening on one side of my face , (I wear sunscreen everyday and sleep on my back) and what is the best way to improve it I look 15 years older then I am
Answer: Laugh Lines / Nasolabial Folds - Fillers + Sculptra, Lasers like Fraxel/Clear + Brilliant, Radiofrequency, Peels, Skin Care I recommend fillers to soften the nasolabial folds themselves and also lift around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine Sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, skin tightening treatments such as Thermage, Fractora, and Renuvion (J Plasma), thread lifting, and peels to get the most conservative, natural look. I suggest seeing a facial sculpting expert for a formal consultation. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Marionette lines We are all asymmetrical to some degree. Our look is often influenced by genetics as well as lifestyle. The concerns that you mentioned are well addressed using fillers. This treatment is done in the office with results lasting a year or more depending on filler selected. In addition to wearing sunscreen every day like you do, also consider using medical grade skin care products.

Answer: Fiilers--A Simple & Quick Nonsurgical Solution For Smile Lines & Marionette Lines Genetics plays a big role in when and where wrinkles & folds appear. While we don't have much control over this very important factor, we do have an easy, quick and relatively inexpensive and natural solution for treating them--injectable HA fillers. In experienced hands, both the smile line and the marionette line can be treated in one session, which should take no more than about ten minutes tops to complete and with results that are typically immediate and elicit an immediate "Wow!" reaction. So, make sure to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist and also make sure to ask to see his/her personal before and after photos before agreeing to proceed. Best of luck.

Answer: Best way to fix marionette lines It's very normal to develop some nasolabial folds and marionette lines. This is due to gravity and/or muscular mimic activities (intense smiling). It is also normal to have slight asymmetries from one side to another. Non-surgically, you can use dermal fillers or a PDO thread lift to correct it.

Answer: Treatment for NLF and marionette lines We are all asymmetric and most of us have a long and short side of our face. So that could contribute. But additionally, we can use our muscles of facial expression more on one side, which can also cause deepened lines or folds on that side as well. Without seeing you making expressions and your full face on frontal I cannot fully assess. But you may benefit from some filler on the left side (possible malar cheek) but at the piriform fossa, as well as at the commissure and below the lip to help support the lips and minimize the marionette line. Could also consider botox/dysport to the DAO. Hope this is helpful.Rosa B Lipin, MDFacial Plastic Surgeon
