Will it hurt me to keep sucking in my stomach and my stomach muscles after a tummy tuck?

It is unlikely that you would be able to hurt your muscle reconstruction by sucking in your stomach this far after a tummy tuck.

Any activity that encourages your muscles of the abdomen to maintain their optimal condition would in my opinion be helpful. Sit ups, leg lifts and any other type of isometric activity is helpful. At this stage post-op- I  do not think it will be a problem.

At 7 weeks out this shouldn't cause any problem.  Many plastic surgeons would probably be okay with you starting to get back to the gym around this time anyway.  Check with your doctor to make sure that's ok.  Good luck! 

Thanks for your inquiry.  Simply tightening your stomach muscles 7 weeks after a tummy tuck should not affect the outcome.   Every time you move from a sitting to standing position etc, this is already happening involuntarily.   Before doing vigorous exercise (like sit-ups) please check with your surgeon.

I have no idea why this a question but there should be no problem.  Nevertheless, call your surgeon to make sure he is okay with it.

It is okay to hold your stomach in after a tummy tuck. Especially if you are seven weeks out from the procedureI instruct my patients not to do sit ups or crunches within the first three months after a tummy tuck as this applies too much stress to the plication.  I would check with your plastic surgeon but you are probably doing fine.I hope this helps.

Seven weeks post abdominoplasty should allow you to resume your normal activities.  If this includes sucking in your stomach, you should likely be fine.  Check with your surgeon as to their protocol of when you can resume normal activities.  After all, you trusted them to do your surgery, so you should follow their instructions.

As a general rule six weeks is the magic number in time for us to maximise our scar formation. So your scar is about as strong as it will ever get. That being said, it's the old doctor joke, " Hey doctor it hurts when I do this, then don't do it". Your body should tell you when you have pushed too far, listen to your body and let it guide you. At 7 weeks post tummy tuck, it should not adversely affect your healing to actively "suck in your stomach".  That said, check with your surgeon for their recommendations.  But, at this point it should be safe to start exercising your stomach muscles, and any exercise should help improve your muscle tone and eventual result.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
