I have seen several after pictures of tummy tucks with waist cinching/ internal corset. I love the results of these pictures!! Is this a "special" type of suturing technique?
Answer: Waist Cinching / Internal Corset?
The abdominal wall should be reconstructed anatomically by correcting diastasis. A nonanatomic corset or undue tightening has the potential to create undue and prolonged abdominal pain, prolonged recovery, increased abdominal compartment pressure, reduced lung expansion, increased pressure on the pelvic venous structures and implications on DVT. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of tummy tucks each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

An "Internal corset" refers to the suture tightening of the abdominal musculature. There are a variety of techniques that are used to achieve the flattening of the abdominal bulging and to accentuate the waist. Which method is utilized depends on the patient's anatomy and the surgeon's experience and preference to achieve a desired outcome.
Liposuction of selected areas is often performed in conjunction with the abdominoplasty to further improve the appearance of the waist.
