Should I be concerned about this opening by my areola? (Photo)

Question

I am 4 weeks PO and my surgeon has seen me weekly. As of last week I still had a floating scab on it. Now it’s open with white flesh looking stuff and I can see the stitch at the top. I emailed him a picture yesterday and he assured me it was fine. I’m supposed to use neosporin twice a day on it and just wait for it to close. This seems like it’ll never close.

Although this is new to you, it is not new to your plastic surgeon.  He has seen it many times as it is very common to have delayed healing after a breast reduction.  Focus on how much better your back feels and follow your plastic surgeon's advice.  You chose him for his experience.  Trust his experience.

Dear crimsongurl3,
this type of wound is not uncommon after breast lift. It is usually caused by poor blood flow and increased tension. I would suggest you to consult your plastic surgeon, follow your surgeon's instructions and keep your wound clean and covered. It can take few weeks or months for wound to fully heal.

Wound healing complications are not uncommon after breast reduction surgery. Local wound care is the treatment. You should follow up with your plastic surgeon so that he/she can evaluate you, address your concerns, and develop a plan of care. Best of luck!
