I have had two babies and exclusively pumped each time due to latch issues. My breasts are now extremely saggy and deflated. I would like to get breast implants, but I am not 100% sure if I am done having babies. How badly would another pregnant ruin the augmentation? Would it matter if I didn’t breastfeed? Also, is it more expensive to do a lift with the implants?
Answer: Would pregnancy ruin breast implants? I tell my patients that pregnancy doesn't ruin implants. Implants don't really change but the tissue over the top of the implants may stretch and change with each pregnancy. Patients don't have to finishing having their children before breast augmentation but they should know that having another child may change the appearance of their breasts. If in doubt, then it might be good to wait until the family is complete.

Answer: Would pregnancy ruin breast implants? Thank you for the question. There is no right answer here. I try to individualize every patient's care based on their specific circumstances. Generally however (everything else being equal) it is best to wait until after pregnancy to have any type of breast surgery. It is not possible to predict exactly how a specific patient's breast will change after pregnancy, regardless of whether the patient has had previous breast surgery or not. Some typical changes seen after pregnancy include a decrease in size, “sagging" and/or the development of some asymmetry. On the other hand, some women experience very little change even after several pregnancies. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast Augmentation and Pregnancy Thank you for your question. After pregnancy many women need breast implants to address the loss of volume, and a breast lift to address laxity. While it can be tricky to plan cosmetic surgery around pregnancy plans, I usually advise that patients wait until after they are done having children. A future pregnancy, breast feeding, or pumping will not ruin your implants, but it will affect the breast tissue, which can change the appearance of your surgical outcome. If you experienced breast changes with your previous pregnancies, you would likely experience changes with any additional pregnancies. When you are ready, be sure to schedule a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.
