Lipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur under the skin and less commonly within the muscle. They are associated with mild discomfort and a lump underneath the skin. It is always best to talk to an expert plastic surgeon to determine whether the lipoma is possibly a cyst or a tumor or hernia. We would have to remove the lipoma to be sure that it is not something else and we usually do this by sending it to a pathologist for evaluation. If a lipoma is painful, then an exam is needed to make sure it is not compressing on a nerve or whether the diagnosis is different. Aftercare for a lipoma includes gentle compression and Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily on the wound.

Unfortunately, there is very little to do to prevent the lipomas from occurring. That said, their removal is quite simple and can be done quickly with minimal morbidity to you, a small incision and minimal downtime. I understand how frustrating these lesions can be and absolutely recommend you get them removed if they bother you.I wish you the best. Dr. Gabbay.

Hi there is absolutely nothing in allopathy that can help you control lipomas.the only problem with lipomas are the fact that they attract unnecessary attention and comments.the best way to remove them is by surgery. the attached video will give you a great amount of detail. best of luck

Though annoying, the best treatment is to have a surgeon make a small incision over each lipoma, which can then be removed relatively simply.  If there are many lipomas, it may be worthwhile to consider having some sedation for the procedure, whether something as simple as taking a Valium or the equivalent before-hand, or having an anesthesiologist on site to provide sedation.  If it's just a few, local anesthesia alone may be adequate.You should of course be assessed in person by a board-certified plastic surgeon, and then proceed based on the conclusions you reach jointly.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100@RealSelf
