Unfortunately, there is very little to do to prevent the lipomas from occurring. That said, their removal is quite simple and can be done quickly with minimal morbidity to you, a small incision and minimal downtime. Though annoying, the best treatment is to have a surgeon make a small incision over each lipoma, which can then be removed relatively simply. If there are many lipomas, it may be worthwhile to consider having some sedation for the procedure, whether something as simple as taking a Valium or the equivalent before-hand, or having an anesthesiologist on site to provide sedation.
