Thank you for your question. Although it may seem concerning, yes, swelling under the chin and around the jawline can be normal for many patients after a neck or facelift. The lymphatic drainage systems require extensive recovery that can take up to 18 months to establish. Heat can aggravate healing tissue and add to the swelling, but it should continue to improve over the next six months. It’s important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon for more specific information about your concerns, especially if the swelling does not naturally dissipate. I suggest using proper sun care items like hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses while in direct sun. Cooling towels or ice packs can help after being outside and bring temporary relief.
Thank you for your question. With an invasive surgery such as this, it may take a long time for things to return to normal and sometimes not everything returns to normal. Try some massage of these areas and give it some more time. It will likely improve on its own.Good luck!
Hello @lesliel2010, thank you for your question. In some cases, tissues take a longer time to finish the adaptation process than in other cases and to completely heal. This is especially true during hot weather.Heat tends to congest the tissues. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
Fine drainage, lymphatic and venous, can be compromised after every surgery that requires such an extensive wound like in face/neck lift. It takes time both for drainage routes and reinnervation to re-establish. Continuous message, Jade roller, sun protection (sunscreen) and patience are recommended. Good luck.
Hello, and thank you for your question. Recovery time for a CO2 laser would be 2 weeks, but laser resurfacing will continue to change the skin for about 6 months. The procedure stimulates collagen production, thereby affecting skin quality over time. To be on the safe side, waiting for about 3...
Hello, You're a beautiful young girl as is. I would not recommend facial surgery at this point to try and look like anyone other than yourself. Perhaps you can try a spa for a facial and some skincare assistance, it may help you to be more comfortable in your own skin without making any life...
Your photos show some jowl formation and laxity under the jawline and chin. A young age is not a barrier to facelift surgery and on the contrary it should delay the ageing process with prevention of further deterioration of the jowls. There are some examples of similar young patients on my...
