Scheduled for liposuction of abdomen, thighs with fat transfer in facial area
Answer: What pain medication is typically prescribed after liposuction and what creams work best to reduce swelling and lumpiness? Pain control is important. I typically use whatever medication a patient has used in the past that has had success. If the patient has never had surgery or never used pain medication, I use oral narcotic meds of varying strengths. I think that many patients require prescription pain medications for the first few days with the transition to the use of Tylenol. The pain can be managed effectively, and this aspect should not deter you from surgery. I usually provide compression garments to my patients which cover all of the areas liposuctioned. The patients who tend to have healing issues with larger volume liposuction procedures tend to be the ones who do not wear the compression garments at all, wear them very inconsistently, or do not wear them snugly covering all areas of liposuction. Post-operative protocol varies from PS to PS, so best to consult with your PS to determine his/her preference.

Answer: Liposuction post-op care I'm happy to give you a bit more information about pain management after liposuction. The technique of your plastic surgeon can have a big impact on your post-op pain levels. In order to reduce pain, some surgeons will apply a numbing medicine to the tissue during liposuction to help decrease the pain after the surgery. Prescription-strength narcotics are often prescribed for patients- these are typically taken for only a few days, and then ibuprofen and Tylenol are sufficient after that. Homeopathic creams such as Arnicare and bromelain can help with swelling and bruising as well. Lumpiness should not be a concern after liposuction if the correct surgical garments are being worn and the surgeon has a good surgical technique.

Answer: Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon wil provide their recommended Pre-Op regimen. Every physician will have their "prescribed pre-op regimen." We provide our patients with pre and post-op instructions and prescriptions to be filled for anti-nausea, pain relief, etc., a week prior to the scheduled surgery. No creams should be applied to open wounds. We recommend a sensible diet and to wear compression garments to help with swelling. Once again, your physician will be able to provide you with their recommended pre and post-op care.
