Can a 12 yr old get a fat transfer?

In order for a patient to be a candidate for aesthetic plastic surgery, she must be in good physical health; have a problem that is actually remediable by plastic surgery; be able to understand the proposed procedure and to give informed consent to have it done; and be physically and emotionally equipped to handle both the postoperative recovery, as well as the long-term physical and psychological effects of the surgery. By definition, a 12 year old, no matter how "well-built", cannot meet these criteria. You would do better, in your conversations with your daughter, to focus  on her eating a well balanced diet, exercising, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Discussion of plastic surgery procedures should be tabled until she reaches adulthood, and can make her own informed decisions.

Cosmetic surgery on girls this young isn't the best idea.  I suggest diet/exercise as her body will change substantially in the next few years.  Surgery would be best only after going through puberty and trying to change her body with traditional methods. Surgery in children would only be because of disproportion or disfigurement. Best, Dr. Emer.

In reconstructive cases, Fat transfer is possible in a child. However, there are very few elective cosmetic surgeries that should be done in children (prominent ear correction, scar corrections etc). Fat transfer to the buttocks is not something that should be done on a 12 year old. As in any cosmetic surgery procedure It carries potential complication including fatal ones. Patients should be of adult age or near it to be able to understand what a procedure like this involves. 

Thank you very much for your question.Although your daughter may not act her age, I would think that the majority of plastic surgeons would not offer those procedures to a 12 year old girl, who is likely still developing.I would continue to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle for the time being.  Best of luck!

Ma'am, it's hard to imagine as situation where plastic surgery (fat transfer) on a child for her breast or buttock (or anything else) would be indicated.   I suggest you both go see your family physician for a very thorough check up.  Don't go see a plastic surgeon.  

I would say doing a Brazilian butt lift could potentially give a plastic surgeon as much notoriety as having performed the first face transplant.It would probably set a new record in the United States in regards to providing major cosmetic surgery to a child.I personally make a point of assessing each and every person on an individual basis.That means never say never and never say always.That's said  doing fat transfer as a breast enhancement or gluteal argumentation on a 12-year-old comes as close to never as I can imagine.I have performed cosmetic surgery on minors.The youngest one was 16.In order to justify cosmetic surgery on a 12-year-old they would need to be disfigured.Wait a few more years, Ideally at least of six years.Mats Hagstrom M.D.
