I had an abdominoplasty ten weeks ago, and I'm trying to figure out if I am close to my finished product, or if there is still swelling. The skin from the naval to the incision site is incredibly tight, but there is some loose skin around the belly button area. Specifically the top of the belly button seems to hang over a bit. I don't know if my expectations were just too high, but could this still be swelling?
Answer: 10 weeks- swelling Hello,Thank you for the question and photos. At ten weeks, I would still expect some residual swelling in the areas you mentioned and this can fluctuate with activity levels increasing. I recommend that you speak with your Plastic Surgeon about compression garments to assist you and to give you more information about your expected timeline for recovery. All the best

Answer: 10 Weeks Post Op Tummy Tuck - Do I Still Have Some Swelling Present? At 10 weeks after an abdominoplasty, there is always some swelling present. This type of swelling will continue to decrease over time, but do not be surprised with recurrence of excessive swelling, especially after flying in an airplane or working out. Injured tissue responds to altitude or exercise by swelling. As far as the upper abdominal tissue hanging over your belly button, this is quite common in everyone post abdominoplasty and also in non-operated indviduals. I see no excess swelling in the picture you sent, but I am sure it is present. At this point, it should not be of great concern to you.

Answer: 10 weeks post tummy tuck, is this just swelling? Yes, longer-term swelling after tummy tuck surgery is not uncommon; swelling may persist for many months and even up to one year after the procedure is performed. Often, patients will report that the swelling increases as their activity level increases and gets worse later on in the day. Sometimes, the use of compressive garments may be helpful to control the edema. I would suggest that you continue to follow up with your plastic surgeon, who will be in the best position to assess your situation and provide you with specific recommendations. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be pleased with long-term care.

Answer: 10 weeks post tummy tuck Swelling can take months to resolve completely, at least from the patient's perspective. However, at 10 weeks postop, the majority of the swelling should be gone and your results should be fairly obvious. I don't see the extra skin you are talking about above your belly button (perhaps it is present more when you are seated?) but if I had to critique your results I would say that the scar is too high and there's not enough distance between your belly button and the scar. Luckily the scar will fade with time. Best of luck with your continued recovery!

Answer: Is this just swelling? Hi, there. Based on your photo, I cannot appreciate swelling in 2D. However, swelling can persist several months after tummy tuck. Depending on your activity, swelling can fluctuate within a day or day to day. Please give some more time. If you have concerned, share the concern with your plastic surgeon so that he/she can address your concern better after examining you. Good luck with your continued recovery.
