It has been a week since my surgery. I received 400cc and 450cc put in under the muscle. I'm worried because I haven't seen them drop even a little. They are as hard as rocks. Is this normal? Or am I just being impatient?

Hi. It takes at least a few weeks to see softening and dropping of the implant after breast augmentation, with most people taking at least 3 months to stop changing - be patient at this stage. Regards Dr CHarles Cope

Be patient. You are ONLY one week post surgery. Some patient's implants drop and soften more quickly than others. Are you wearing a breast band? Has your surgeon shown you the exercises yet? Follow your surgeon's instructions and everything will fall into place!

Though you haven't posted a preop pic, I'd suspect you started with very little breast tissue. It will take another 3-4 weeks for your breasts to start to fall and to soften. Try not to be impatient, I know its difficult. Good luck

Congratulations on your surgery! I know you are most likely feeling better and ready for your breasts to look as good as you feel, but unfortunately, they lag behind in that area.  Everyone is different when it comes to healing, so it can take anywhere from 3-6 months for your implants to settle.  At one week post-op, you appear to be right on track.  Try to practice patience, continue following your surgeon's post-op instructions and going to your follow up visits and re-evaluate in a few months and I'm sure you will be quite pleased with your results. ac

Thank you for your question!  Your breasts appear to be normal at this stage of the healing process. Your implants will slowly settle into place after a few weeks, but give them a few months for the final result. Follow post-operative instructions and schedule an evaluation with your surgeon if you have additional concerns.

First and foremost you're in good
company.  All patients who undergo breast implant surgery look too big,
too tight, too high, and too swollen early on.

In my own practice I tell my patients that it
will be about three weeks before they even believe that they're going to
come down, by about 12 weeks I will know and you will know you are high,but no
one else will care, and ultimately your most  natural result will come
between six and 12 months after surgery.

Some patients can take longer to drop than
others depending on the size of the implant and their anatomy.  For
example, it will take longer for a 500 CC implant stretch and relax the skin
and muscle than a smaller implant.  A more muscular person with a sub
muscular implant will take longer for the implant to drop as well.

Share your concerns with your plastic surgeon,
who I suspect will walk you through this and confirm that your normal.

One week post breast augmentation is much too early to make
definitive determination or assessment as regards your breasts.Give yourself at least two more full
months before making such a critical determination. More often than not within
that timeframe breasts will soften and settle in. It’s then that there can be a
better judgment as to size and position.
