Will Rhinoplasty fix septoplasty problems?

Question

I had septoplasty done around ten years ago. It over reduced my turbinates and blocked the drainage of my tear duct. Currently my nose is always dry to the point of bleeding. Even with gels, sprays, and humidifiers. Will reducing the airway passages by reducing the nose size relieve the dryness or will it cause further issues?

Hi,I am so sorry you are struggling with these problems after your first surgery. When nasal passages constantly feel dry and bleed, often there is still some form of obstruction on the inside or sometimes a hole in the septum called a septal perforation. I would recommend getting evaluated by a facial plastic surgeon to see if you have any of these issues. A rhinoplasty can treat both and can actually open the size of the nasal airways even if the outside result is the nose looking smaller. I do this all the time for my patients. Hello,
The rhinoplasty surgical procedure focus on improving the external shape of the nose. It can address the functional aspect by correcting the nasal valve or septal deviation issues. If you have an over-resected turbinate from previous surgery, it needs to be addressed by different type of medical and surgical treatment options.

Unfortunately, you developed chronic signes of atrophic rinitis, possibly as a result of your surgeries. There is no surical procedure, to my knowledge, that will improve such a condition. Hope this helps.
