A tummy tuck is an elective operation, so a vitamin K deficiency should be corrected and medically cleared before surgery. Vitamin K is important for normal blood clotting, and an untreated deficiency can increase the risk of bleeding, bruising, hematoma, wound problems, or needing additional treatment after surgery. The next step is to find out why you are deficient and whether your clotting tests, especially PT/INR, are normal after treatment. Your plastic surgeon should coordinate with your primary doctor or a hematologist before scheduling surgery. If the deficiency is mild, corrected, and your labs are normal, surgery may still be possible; if it is ongoing or unexplained, it is safer to postpone the tummy tuck until it is fully evaluated.
