Will a fleur-de-lis incision after additional weight loss post lower body lift be ok? (Photo)

Question

I had a lower body lift after losing 110 lbs. but it wasn’t enough to address all of the skin due to the amount of sagging and poor elasticity. I am a 33 yo. Female. My surgeon informed me of this prior. He did a wonderful job but I still have excess skin on my stomach and will be having a fleur-de-lis inscision. Will losing an additional 13 kg affect my lower body lift? Or will the fleur de lis adjust the additional new sagging skin? I am currently weight training and exercising as well.

I would not recommend a fleur de lis but would recommend redoing your tummy tuck. If you are not planning future pregnancies, I recommend abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement. The mesh creates a more hourglass figure by compressing the abdominal wall resulting in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight.

I think the best bet to get you a more defined waist would involve 3 things

1) Be your best maintainable weight

2) Some liposuction of the waist and the vertical scar if you want to trade t for a better shape

3) Possible re-visiting the muscle repair at the time of the vertical

I have never needed to do the fdl tummy tuck. I think it offers very little benefit and the risk of healing problems is greater

Your surgeon may need to utilize the lower abdominal incision to remove excess skin with more weight loss. Your surgeon can discuss what you need with you.

Congratulations on your impressive weight loss!  As you are planning to lose additional weight, it is best to do so before having surgery.  This will give your surgeon the best opportunity to maximize your results.  Typically small weight fluctuations +/-10 pounds) will not cause significant impact, however you are planning closer to 30 pounds.

Even with the nicely posted photos very hard to advise without either in person or virtual examination. I think re excision of vertical scar with tightening could be the answer. But needs better examination. If done in certified office surgery suite fee $7,000, Ambulatory center $10,000. Out patient or 24 hour outpatient hospital $16,000.

Adding the fleur-de-lis incision is a judgment call. In many ways it tends to be very visible, and is in many ways a big drawback.
There’s no right or wrong answer. It’s a balancing act between how much the horizontal skin laxity bothers you and how you feel about having a vertical scar.
