Can you get nerve damage from chin liposuction?

The nerves to swallow are deeper below the muscle layer and the procedure should not have any effect on ability to swallow, however, the nerve that lowers the corner of the mouthcan be affected.  This type of injury usually subsides in a few weeks and is rarely permanent.  Make sure your surgeon has experience in this type of liposuction. The under chin liposuction can be done safely without causing nerve injury. The nerves are deeper, below the muscle layer and they should not get injured during a submental liposuction. I would normally do this in the office under local anesthesia. The cannula that I use is very small and I have never had a nerve injury. Having said that anything is possible especially if the surgeon is not experienced in this type of procedure. In the right hands the recovery is fast and the procedure should give immediate results. This is a much better operation than Kybella injection that has to be repeated, gives minimal results and can cause nerve injury. 

All procedures carry risks involving injury to muscles and nerves.  I have performed thousands of chin lipo procedures and this has not occurred.  Chin lipo is very safe.  We perform lipo only in the subcutaneous space (skin fat)  right below the skin.   Nerves travel beneath this fat and under the platymsa muscle so there is a low chance of injury.  If it is injured it most likely is temporary from stretching or bruising.  Best of luck!

Liposuction of the chin is basically safe in the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon. It should not affect swallowing at all. You may have some temporary numbness and bruising of the neck which should resolve over time. Be sure to inquire specifically about the surgeon's experience with liposuction of the neck, as it is a little different than liposuction in other areas of the body.

 There are two types of nerves, sensory nerves and motor nerves. Damage to either one of those is extremely rare with liposuction the chin.
