Had a margarita 6 days before rhinoplasty - should I tell my doctor?

Hi, I was hoping to get your advice. I have a rhinoplasty coming up. This will be done with twilight sedation. The doctor had instructed no alcohol 7 before procedure. I went to a work dinner and had 1 1/2margarita. This was 6 days before surgery. I absolutely forgot and now I’m scared my dr will cancel my surgery. Should I tell him? And also have is one drink 6 days before instead of 7? For the note I never ever drink. Thanks

Alcohol is certainly a blood thinner, however, blood levels of alcohol are nearly down to zero in 48 hours or less. I wouldn't worry about it. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

As far as I can understand from your question you should definitely inform your doctor about this information, please do not hide important details from your doctor as you will be anesthetized.

Always disclose all medications and other substances taken to your surgeon and anesthetists - this is for your own safety. They need to know all of this information to safely take care of you and achieve the best result. Alcohol can increase your propensity to bleed during surgery which is why it is often recommended to abstain from it leading up to surgery. I recommend disclosing this to your surgeon and allow them to decide if it is significant enough to cancel surgery. If they do, remember it is for your own safety.

Hello and thank you for your question. This is likely OK and nothing to worry about at all. But it is always best to tell your surgeon. The one thing I will mention is that rhinoplasty is usually best and safest done with general anesthesia rather than twilight sedation.
