Facelift vs reverse facelift. What is the difference? Which one leaves less scarring?

The term "reverse" facelift is not commonly used and definitely should be avoided. If used to advertise a certain procedure, education is most beneficial when well-established names are used including Midface-Lift (or cheek lift), SMAS Facelift, Deep-Plane Facelft etc.

A reverse facelift is done with incisions in the mouth. Through the mouth, the smas (facial facia) is tightened but no skin is removed. This is a procedure that would only show an improvement in a younger patient with some jowling, no skin excess, and younger skin that still has its elasticity.A traditional facelift requires incisions around the ear and usually a small incision under the chin. This allows direct visualization for smas tightening as well as provides incisions for excess skin removal. This is by far the most common method for a facelift, and has proven results. Therefore, I personally the traditional method.

There many different terms for facelifts depending on a specific technique. I've never heard of a reverse facelift.

the type of facelift you get should be the procedure that will give you optimal results based on your anatomy. be sure to have your face evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

I am not familiar with a reverse facelift.  Unless you see many before and after photos and see a track record of success I would be concerned about procedures that may sound new.
