Under eye filler heaviness/puffiness?

9 days ago I went to a highly recommended plastic surgeon for under eye filler in my tear trough area to correct under eye circles. I thought during the consult he told me that he would use Restalyne for the procedure. When I received an email afterwards from the office it stated Juvederm Vollure XC was used.It is now 9 days post injections and I have morning puffiness and an all day heavy feeling under my eyes. The results look good, but they feel SO HEAVY and puffy. Will this go away?

You may have swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after tear trough injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi there and thanks for your question.  I never use or recommend using Juvederm in the tear troughs.  Juvederm is a hydrophillic product that draws water in and creates a puffiness and feeling of heaviness under the eyes.  In contrast, Restylane does not cause under-eye swelling.  I recommend seeing your injector for a follow up to discuss exactly what he/she used and possible reversal of the product. I would confirm which filler you received. Swelling can last 2 to 3 weeks, but Restylane is a better choice in the tear trough for it creates less swelling long term!Good luck! Dr. Aldo

This may still be swelling. It can take 1-2 weeks for your final results. If you're unhappy, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase. I hope that helps.

It can take up to two weeks for the swelling to completely resolve and for you to see your final results.  I recommend contacting the injector's office to find out which product was used.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon if they persist.

The results from under eye filler are more dependent upon the skill of the injector rather than product used. However, I am not a fan of Juvederm under the eye because it attracts water and is more likely to cause under eye swelling than Restylane (which is my under eye filler of choice) or Belotero. You can have heaviness or swelling from any product in the area 9 days later. I recommend you discuss your issue with your surgeon. The good news is that if there is a problem with Juvederm, it can be easily dissolved.

Thank your for your question.  Certain fillers are better than others for tear trough deformities.  The swelling and "heavy feeling" will continue to improve as you get further out from the procedure.  Juvederm is not permanent and your symptoms will go away over time.
