Will hard muscle spasm after breast augmentation result in contracture? 2 days post-op.

It is highly unlikely that a muscle spasm 2 days after breast augmentation surgery will cause a capsular contracture. At 2 days you are about 1 percent settled, healed, softened , and shaped. When concerned, always a good idea to check with your surgeon. "Drop and fluff" refers to the fact that as the skin stretches and the muscles relax, the implants move down and out slowly – about 1 percent a day. It’ll be about six weeks before they even begin to settle down, but they’ll be close to 80 percent settled at three months. Watching their progress is like watching your hair grow. You don’t see a difference in your hair growth daily, but all of a sudden you need a haircut. 
Be patient after surgery. Give yourself a few months before making a judgment about your surgical results. You won't know the outcome until then.

Thanks for your question! No, a muscle spasm shouldn't lead to contracture. A muscle relaxant like Valium or flexeril should help. If your implant looks distorted, I would definitely see your plastic surgeon and have them evaluate this. Best of luck to you!

A muscle spasm after a breast augmentation, while uncomfortable and sometimes concerning, is a normal occurrence after a submuscular augmentation. The muscle is not used to being on stretch and under so much tension. This should reside in 10-14 days, if it persists, your doctor can prescribe a muscle relaxant. However, any time there is concern after a surgical procedure, I would recommend contacting the surgeon the performed the procedure.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing muscle spasm after your surgery. While this do not usually cause capsular contracture, you should visit your plastic surgeon for an evaluation. Your surgeon can prescribe you with muscle relaxant.

muscle spasm will not lead to capsular contracture.  a muscle relaxant may help. the breast should not look distorted when the spasm is gone, so you might want to check with your surgeon.

Sorry to hear that you are having horrible muscle spasms after surgery.  Most certainly call your Plastic surgeons office for advice especially since you report that your implants appear distorted now.  Many patients will get relief from the spasms by doing breast massage.  Good luck.

No it will not cause a contracture 2 days out. Your muscle is in spasm because of the augmentation. With an implant under the muscle it is now on stretch and is not used to that. So it will spasm and I use valium for my patients for muscle spasms. It works well. I would consult with your surgeon and see if that is an option for you. DrRickAZ

It is common for patients to get muscle spasms after breast augmentation, your surgeon may be able to prescribe you a muscle relaxer to help with this. Muscle spasms don't usually lead to capsular contracture, but follow up with your surgeon. 

Hello and thank you for your question.   It is normal to have muscle spasms after surgery , especially the first few weeks.  I do not know of any evidence pointing to strong spasm and cc.

Muscle spasms after breast augmentation can be very painful and pretty well always settle down in time. I can’t think of any evidence that they will lead to capsular contracture. Be sure to check with your surgeon for options to control the spasms.
