I am getting a big tattoo cover up on my back Saturday, & have my surgery Tuesday. I was reading about the risk of infection, but usually my tattoos heal pretty well. I wanted to know if it’s possible to have some sort of negative reaction during surgery caused by the ink. Anything to do with anesthesia terrorizes me. I’m very scared to have any complications due to this.

Answer: Breast augmentation and tattoo I recommend my patients not have any tattoo work done for 6 weeks prior and after their breast augmentation surgery because of the risk of possible infection. You should keep your surgeon in the loop and ask his or her preference.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author

Answer: Tattoo and breast augmentation Tattooing creates very superficial wounds on the skin that need to heal. These procedures are both elective and can be done at any time, so I would recommend waiting at least a few weeks after the tattooing before you have your breast augmentation. You can also wait until your breast augmentation has healed and then have the tattoo covered. Risk is probably minimal, however it’s always better to optimize your health. The ink will have no effect on your breast augmentation. Best wishes.
