Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs or told us your bra size. However, explantation alone frequently results in dissatisfaction due to the hanging skin, empty appearance and requires a lift. Depending on your size I would recommend explantation and mini lift or explantation using The Bellesoma Method. The mini lift using a circumareola incision to remove the implants, reshape the breast tissue, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. The Bellesoma Method will remove the implants, reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained, if not injured during your previous surgery. Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.
Dear sherrycarter78,generally speaking, implants are removed using the same incision which was used for their placement. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Thank you for sharing your question. In general the original incision is used to explant but exceptions can be made based on patient preferences and the exact procedure or ancillary procedures that would need to be done to reach your goals. As for nerve damage, any incision carries with it the risk of some temporary or permanent sensation changes and this should be discussed during your consultation. Hope this helps
The original site of incision where the breast implantation was done is the same site for breast implant removal incision. The incision should heal similar to the initial surgery. The most common incision site is under the breast. You could ask your health care professional regarding the sites if you are still curious about the healing process. They will be able to answer your questions and address your concerns for you.
The same incision used to place the implants can be used to remove them. If you have them removed through the nipple there is a small risk of sensation change, just as there was when they were first placed. Typically any sensation changes are temporary. I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon to help you decide what's best for you.
If your original incision is around the areolae, then there should be minimal risk to the nerves. If your original incision is below the breasts, there probably is not a good reason to make a new incision around the areolae. If your original incision is axillary, then the incision under the breast carries the least risk to nerves to the nipple. If you have a thick capsule that needs to be removed with the implant, there is a chance of more numbness somewhere on the breast.
