Years after Juvederm still have hanging lumps on under side of upper lip. Still filler or permant damage? (photos)

It's unusual to have a HA filler last longer than a couple years. If the lumps bother you, you can always try reversing it. Hylenex is commonly used to reverse HA fillers if the patient is unhappy with their results.

Thank you for sharing your question.  It is difficult without an in-person examination of the tissues to know if these lumps are the result of filler or scar tissue but one way to assess is to have the areas injected with hyaluronidase to dissolve any synthetic hyaluronic acid still present.  Hyaluronidase will dissolve JVD within a matter of hours.  Hope this helps.

Lumps can still be present at 1.5 yr out caused by filler. You could have some hyaluronidase injected.  It may take more than one treatment, but if it is filler it will dissolve with treatment.  Good luck!

It is possible that the lumps are either filler or scar tissue. I would recommend following up with a reputable provider for further evaluation and physical exam.

It is possible that it is still in your lips after 1.5 years. I would try treating them with hyaluronidase and see if there is any success. It might take more than one treatment to see results.

Thank you for your photo's and question. If you are 1 1/2 years out , it is possible there is some left .  It can easily be dissolved with an enzyme called  hyluronidase which is injected into the nodule.

so if you haven't had any for over a year, it is likely to be scar tissue. This will inevitably form when anyone injects anything through the skin and tissues and the more injections you have had, the more scar will likely have formed. Unfortunately if it is scar it can't be dissolved away like old product can. I think its still worth a try to inject between 10 and 20 units of hyalase with the finest needle available to try and rule out leftover product. If it is scar then massage and time will soften it but it may never go away. Alas this is one of the long term complications of filler that people don't always tell you about. Hope that helpsAdam Goodwin

I'm sorry to see the problem you have. This happens when the filler injected in the lips is too heavy and or it is injected too close to the surface. You can consult with a qualified physician who can inject hyaluronidase to dissolve these lumps. I hope this helps. LM

Thank you for your question and photos.
I have seen this many times over many years with most HA fillers. It happens mostly when a thicker product is injected too superficially.
The good news is that it is easy to get rid of the lumps by injecting hyalase in very small amounts in to each lump.
It is critical that you go to someone experienced as they should be able to dissolve the lumps easily without discomfort.
Once settled you can start again if you wish. The lip will not be damaged, I've only seen issues when people have had huge amounts of filler injected to get very large lips but that won't apply to you I'm sure.
I know it can make you anxious but try not to worry too much.
