Unfortunately, it is still too early to say. It can take 6 months to a year for scars to heal. I would suggest that you re-evaluate at the 6 month mark. Sorry that you are experiencing this. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Skin thinning with steroid injections is common.  The discoloration will likely improve with time but it is too early to say if it will go away enough for you to be 100% satisfied.  Re-evaluation of the area at approximately 6 months will tell a lot more.  Good luck!

Steroid injection can soften hypertrophic scars at the risk of side effects such as skin thinning.  Discoloration may improve up to a year after your last intervention.  I would advise watchful waiting at this time and consider surgical revision only after at LEAST 6-12 months have passed.   

Thank you for your questions and for sharing your photographs.  Kenalog injections are not without their risks, which can include skin thinning, loss of underlying fat and development of fine blood vessels called telangiectasis.  It is difficult to see what exactly is the status of your discoloration and at this point I would follow conservative wound care to allow the area to fully heal and mature over the next several months before attempting any further intervention. 

While Kenalog is helpful for some hypertrophic scar, they are not without risk and thinning of the skin can occur with the steroid use. Some of these changes are reversible when the steroid is withdrawn, however scar revision might become necessary at a later date.

Kenalog injections are not without hazard, and thinning of the skin is one such risk.It is hard to predict what the outcome will be.  But with the rest of the scar looking as good as it does, this can probably be improved by scar revision in the future. All the best. 

Wound healing is a continuum over a year or two.  Scars tend to get red, thick, hard and raised for about three months, then start to fade, flatten and get softer.  This all takes a year or two to get as good as it usually will.  Time will tell how much you scars appearance will improve.  It can be revised in the future if needed.  be patient.
