What should I be doing to clear up PicoSure rash? (Photo)

I had a Pico treatment for the first time on Friday. I woke up Saturday with red rashy bumps all over my cheeks. They burn and itch. I’m using cold packs and aqua for for relief. Is this normal? What should I be doing to help clear it up?

This is a question best suited for the rendering provider as after care specifically will depend on the patient and you should be given a strict after care skin care regimen. Moreover, this may just be your skin purging/reacting post laser treatment which is very common. Give yourself time to heal and be sure to follow your after care protocol. I suggest scheduling a follow up appointment with the rendering provider a couple weeks post treatment. Best, Dr. Emer.

Thanks for your question and posting a picture.  It's not clear in the picture what is happening.  After any laser treatment, your skin may purge the bad stuff out of your skin.  My best advice is to see your local physician that provided the service.  Best of luck.

i am not positive since i cannot examine you in person. However, i have seen this before. it is due to a histamine release. This will cause itchiness and often burning. I would have you take benedryl now. if it does not help in 24 hours, then I would add in oral prednisone  - such as a Medrol dose pack which is a short course of steroids. this should definitely help within 24-48 hours. I have had a few patients, who needed a second week of Prednisone. You should definitely take Benadryl about 90 minutes before your next Picosure session. definitely stay out of the sun until this settles down and then use a good sunblock. I would not put anything  on your face except for things like Aloe Vera or coconut butter etc until this settles down. it is very unlikely to cause any long term problems and is really just a temporary nuisance. david berman md
