is it abnormal to have PicoSure treatment with no cold air hose?

Hi! I am getting a tattoo removed from my arm and I went in today for my first treatment. They used the Picosure laser but didnt have the hose that blows cold air to help offset the pain. I have had another tattoo done (at a different place) and the hose was used. I know that it doesnt affect the laser and how it works, but is it abnormal to not use the cold air?

The Zimmer chills the skin and is supposed to add to comfort but is a separate piece of equipment.  Other offices might offer topical BLT cream or even Pro Nox for comfort and it depends on the office.

Thanks for your question.  Every office will have their own protocol for the services they offer.  A Zimmer/chiller is an extra piece of equipment that has to be purchased separately.  It is not necessary to get an effective treatment.  It is just used for patient comfort so it is optional.  Best of luck.

The cold air makes the tattoo removal (and hair removal) much more tolerable. IT will not affect your long term results from the laser. However, i would strongly recommend that you get treated in an office that has spent the extra money to buy the cooler, It really helps decrease the discomfort.david berman md
