4 weeks post PicoSure to treat brown marks after Sclerotherapy. Is it going to get better than this? Is this normal? (photo)

Dark spots are a normal side effect of saline injections, and will typically fade over the course of 3-4 weeks. I recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your provider who can provide a formal assessment. In my clinic we use a combination of lasers, sclerotherapy, Venaseal vein closure, radiofrequency ablation, and phlebectomy to customize a treatment plan that addresses the unique treatment needs and goals of our patients. I suggest scheduling a consultation with a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist who is an expert in vein treatments to further address your treatment needs.

Thank you for the question. Brown staining after sclerotherapy treatment can be improved with picosure laser treatment. You might need more than one session. I recommend 4 weeks between sessions. You can also add hydroquinone skin care to help stablize the melanocyte in the stained area. Good luck.

Melasma is due to the melanocytes and responds great to at least 3 sessions of Picosure. the brown staining that occurs after sclerotherapy is due to hemoglobin staining  and i think will be much more difficult to improve with any treatment. I am not sure that the Picosure will be effective in this situation. You definitely need to plan at least 3 sessions, spaced a month apart before making the decision if it is helpful. If you don't have any improvement after 3 sessions, then i would not continue it.david berman md
