Is it true that you should not take ibuprofen after having a CoolSculpting procedure?

Question

I had coolsculpting 12-15-16. No really noticeable results so far. I have continued to eat okay & I workout 6-7x a week. I have since injured my shoulder and have held off on taking ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation in my shoulder tendons because I have read on this site that taking ibuprofen will diminish the results which I'm still hoping fot. Currently doing ice therapy. Will taking ibuprofen diminish coolsculpting results & how many weeks after coolsculpting do I refrain from taking it?

I do not feel ibuprofen will have any significant effect on your outcome if you use it after coolsculpting. Keep in mind, it will take 3-6 months for final results with Coolsculpting. For best results with Coolsculpting, I recommend a combination approach. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing. VASER with ThermiRF is a great alternative. Thanks for your question and sorry that you are having the issues that you are having.  While we don’t recommend taking ibuprofen immediately after CoolSculpting it should be perfectly fine at this time and if needed, I see no reason not to take it for the problems that you are now having.  You should consult your provider and follow up with your CoolSculpting procedures.

Inflammation after Coolsculpting treatment may last from 1-3 weeks and we advise our clients to use Tylenol versus Ibuprofen during that time frame.  Inflammation is part of the process and Tylenol helps reduce discomfort without affecting the natural response to treatment.  I advise you follow up with the physician who performed your Coolsculpting session regarding your results if you have not already done so.  You may also have your shoulder injury checked by a physician as well to make sure you haven't damaged anything.  Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Taking ibuprofen will not affect your final CoolSculpting results.  The only precaution against taking ibuprofen is immediately after your procedure.  If you have bruising as a result of the procedure, you should avoid taking ibuprofen because it can make the bruising worse.  But taking Ibuprofen two or more weeks after having had the procedure should be perfectly fine.

Using ibuprofen will have no effect on results . It maybe advised no refrain from ibuprofen to limit the possibility of bruising from the treatment, but ibuprofen can be used.

Hello kpzr,
Ideallly you should avoid Ibuprofen after CoolSculpting. The natural process of removing the dead fat cells is dependent on the immune system. Ibuprofen dampens the immune response and could delay the results but will not prevent them. It is better to take Tylenol however if you need the Ibuprofen for your shoulder pain, it's ok to take it.  Typically your body should continue to remove fat cells for 3-4 months after your procedure after which time taking Ibuprofen will not delay your results.
