I am a female 36yo had implant placed over 10 years and recently had a capsulectomy implant exchange all together. Right after I started developing TOS has not been diagnosed yet but systems point out to Neuro TOS. Would removing the implants help? Should I treat the TOS prior to implant removal? Feeling needle pain on chest constantly under implant and numbness of the arm along with clavicle displacement and shoulder blade and first rib pain as well.

Answer: Thoracic outlet syndrome If your implants are large and heavy, they may be pulling too much on your neck, shoulder, and clavicles and you could be improved with removal or downsizing your implants. However, some with TOS must have part of the clavicle or rib removed for relief. Testing can be done to see what would be best for you.

Answer: Concerns regarding implants Many years ago at the bookstore at the Boston University school of medicine there was a book for sale called "1000 medical abbreviations for your convenience and your patient's detriment". I'm reminded of the title on a regular basis. I suggest you follow up with your plastic surgeon and also talk to your primary care doctor about getting a proper work up including referrals to the right providers. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
