Compression and faja- how long is too long to wear? (Photo)

Question

I have been following several women post op tummy tuck and lipo360 on social media to get a feel for recovery. Some women say that their doctors forbade them from wearing faja past week 6 so that the body could repair its own lymphatic channels and learn to drain itself. Others wear their compression garnments 2 weeks and some longer than 12 weeks. I’m curious on the general consensus- is it true that you shook f stop wearing faja at 6 weeks???

This is a question for the plastic surgeon who performs your liposuction as plastic surgeon preferences for types of compression garments and length of wear vary. I recommend that my patients wear an adjustable abdominal compression garment for six weeks. This compression garment does not cover the buttocks or the hips.

The purpose of compression is to help control swelling and give support to tissues as they heal.  Typically patients benefit from compression after a tummy tuck for up to 6 weeks.  After that time frame most do not need the extra support.  Some may need it periodically after prolonged activity. Your surgeon will advise what is best for you based on how you are progressing through recovery.

I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors.It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery.

Hi and welcome to our forum!There is no consensus regarding the length of time a compression garment should be worn after liposuction. Some surgeons recommend 4-6 weeks of compression, some 3 months, some not at all. Compression is utilized to prevent postoperative bleeding and to control postoperative swelling. In our practice, we utilize the garment for a period of 6 weeks and promote the use of lymphatic drainage techniques.Best wishes...

Hello and thanks for your questions. In plastic surgery, the treatment technique and the recovery process may change depends on the patients to patients and the details of the procedure. I generally want my patients to wear their garments for 6-8 weeks of time. During the recovery period and regular check-ups, I checked my patients healing process and I suggest them to use garment more than 6-8 weeks.
