I’m looking to get my banana rolls removed. They are very big and my butt is very uneven. I have slight scoliosis and low muscle tone which I know contributes to it. I plan on working out to lift my butt. But to kick start it I’d like to surgery. I’ve read it’s a tricky area to treat. Which procedure would be best to lift my butt, make it more even, and remove the banana rolls?I’m 5’4 155lbs

Answer: The correct procedure From what I see, I suggest you have liposuction only. Do not have liposuction of your banana roll. The outcome is always problematic and the problem is not related to fat distribution. The banana role is a skinfold and is not treatable. Liposuction is the best treatment is really all you need. You could do a BBL but I really don’t see the need in your case. By far, the most important variable is provider selection. Finding the right plastic surgeon to do this kind of work is way more difficult than most people realize. I suggest a you start the process by having multiple in person consultations with local board certified plastic surgeons who seem to have it extensive experience with both Liposuction and fat transfer. Bring pictures of your own body to use as reference. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up the portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. This will show you what results are likely to look like. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images showing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. If providers don’t have a lot of results of banana roll Liposuction that look really great then it’s because they haven’t had any good outcomes in their career. Liposuction should not be done for the banana roll. An experienced provider should have access to 100 or preferably thousands of before, and after pictures to choose from. Take careful notes during each consultation. I highly recommend people avoid having virtual consultations and schedule more consultations than you probably think necessary. The number of plastic surgeons have mastered this kind of work is pretty small. I suggest having at least four or five consultations before selecting a provider. The biggest mistake I see patients make is having only one consultation and then scheduling surgery. The second biggest mistake I see patients make is assuming that being bought certified in plastic surgery With year of experience and a handful of good reviews means that somebody has master most plastic surgical procedures. This is simply not true. In reality most plastic surgeons really aren’t that great at Liposuction. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. It’s like getting a tattoo. Do it once and do it right. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of taking responsibility for vetting providers before you have surgery. If you don’t pick providers correctly, you can end up being permanently disfigured. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
