I recommend that my patients take 100 grams of protein each day during the healing phase for the first six weeks following surgery. This protein can be in the form of manufactured premier protein shakes, plant protein, or optimum whey protein added to milk or water. The objective is not weight gain but promotion of healing.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
hello thank you for your question and provided information as well .. based on your question, it is recommended that you suspend the supplements 1 week before the surgery, and it is recommended to eat balanced meals with amino acids, carbohydrates and vegetables.
Dear redheadlady, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
you don't need the protein powder. Proteins are made up of 21 amino acids. Your body is able to make the majority of these but some are considered essential and have to be consumed through your diet. Vegetable based proteins are lower in the sensual amino acids and hands are not the preferred option for protein deficient individuals. I see no reason why he whey protein would be contra indicated. Eat normal food and you will not need supplements.Mats Hagstrom, MD
