Went to get a second opinion on my 1 month post op procedure. The surgeon wouldn't see me because she said I was still in the post op timeframe( within six months). Also that there was some kind of "law" about checking a patient from another surgeon. She sent me back to my surgeon. All I wanted was a second opinion. Does that mean I have to wait six months before I get a second opinion from a ps???
Answer: Post-Op Opinion from a Different Surgeon You most definitely can, at any point, decide you want to consult a new surgeon for another professional opinion should you be wary of your surgeon’s expertise. There is no law or other such legal code prohibiting a patient from consulting another surgeon for another opinion. Still, I would recommend that you visit your own surgeon for your post-op concerns, at least while you are in the beginning stages of your recovery. Your own surgeon knows your condition best, and can thus better direct and reassure you during this vulnerable time.

Answer: Is there a law that won't allow a surgeon to check another surgeon's patient during his/her post op period?? As a senior Plastic Surgeon in Miami I know of NO law to not obtain a second opinion at any time! In fact I checked with the Florida Society of PSs and the legal response agrees with me. Did you offer the pay for the second opinion? My fee is $250.

Answer: Law I'm unaware of such a law. Generally, it takes months for swelling to subside after gynecomastia surgery. There are privacy laws that would prohibit the other doctor telling anyone that you saw them, but that doesn't sound like your concern here. Usually, I advise patients to return to their doctor until swelling subsides. Then I ask for permission to call the other doctor.

Answer: Gynecomastia surgery Hello, and thank you for this question. I am not aware of any law in Florida that states a surgeon cannot see another surgeons patient in followup. However, as previously stated some surgeons prefer not to get involved in the postoperative care of other patients.

Answer: Gynecomastia Early Post-Op Phase Hi, Thanks for your post. I am not aware of any law that prevents a surgeon from evaluating another surgeon's patient at any time during the recovery process. Most surgeons tend not to evaluate another surgeon's patient in the early post-operative period because there really is no definitive recommendation that can be made at that time. This is because at 1 month most patients will still have swelling and their chest will still be healing. For that reason and that reason alone, most surgeon's have a policy of not evaluating a patient in the early post-operative period. Hope that helps, Dr. Dadvand
